About Us

28% of American households do not have someone over the age of 13 who speaks English fluently, while 47% of immigrant adults barely speak English. Current professional translation services are expensive, while free programs such as Google Translate are unreliable.

As a result, language brokering is extremely common within immigrant families. While some studies show that it has a positive effect on self-esteem, empathy, and perspective, others argue that it subjects the child to stress and puts them at high risk for depression and anxiety.

Youth language brokers founded Youth Global Translators to emphasize its positive impact and decrease its negative consequences by connecting free, high-quality language services to support immigrants and refugees while recognizing multilingual youth's work for their local and greater community.
